Anyone have a dinghy I can borrow so I can pick up Andy from work?

Now that I live on a canal, I expect my property to rise.

Okay, this is an old story, but a heartwarming one. If you are an animal lover, you've gotta click.

First read this:

Then watch this - the video effects are pretty cheesy, but you have to see the reunion.

Two things:

-That [info]wtf_history group featured on the main page of LJ is actually kinda neat. I just spent the last 25 minutes looking random shit up on wikipedia. Seattle has an underground you can take tours of? Neat. I ended up reading about concubines. Don't ask.

-I want to share my new favorite firefox add-on, foxmarks. I have been using this for a couple weeks now and I freaking love it. It syncs all your bookmarks between multiple computers. It's practically invisible, and just works. If you go back and forth between one or several computers, it's fantastic. Now I just need to organize all my bookmarks better.

my jedi mind tricks - they work!

I hate when you are really REALLY sleepy and you want to go to sleep so you can get up at a decent hour and not be late for work as usual, but then you force yourself to get up and take out your contacts and brush your teeth and wash your face and you go back to bed and you are totally, completely, 100% awake.

Goddammit.

We stopped at the Heidelberg Project on the way home from Eastern Market this morning:

Go show my flickr some love!

[info]austinscorpio23, I think you in particular will get a kick out of these.

I am now trying to decide if I should attempt to plant anything or see if it's going to rain. Today we got dill, chocolate mint (finally!), zucchini plants, thai basil, some lettuce plants, a garlic plant, oregano, 5 salvias and a whole heap of other stuff I forgot. I think we have the herb garden pretty well filled out now. We already have the beginnings of three strawberries and all of our tomato plants are blooming. (I had three tomatoes last year and so many tomatoes that I was giving them away to anyone who would take them, and still half rotted on the vine. Now I have 10-12 tomato plants....what was I thinking?)

Anyone have any good cold-food recipes? It's 90 degrees and HUMID here and I don't have AC. I want some ideas on stuff to make over the weekend. Bonus points if it requires little cooking. I have a ton of pasta here, so pasta salad recipes would be welcome - even if that does involve having boiling water sit on the stove.

Here's one I made last week and we really liked it. Good alternative to hummus.

Feta, Walnut and Herb Salad
(I wouldn't consider this a salad, more like a nice cold dip for pita chips, carrots, etc.)

2 Tablespoons each of fresh mint, parsley, and basil
7oz feta cheese
7oz of shelled walnuts, chopped
6 scallions
1 clove of garlic
Half-teaspoon of salt
pepper (to taste)
1 Tablespoon lime juice
1/4 cup olive oil

Throw it all into a food processor and blend until it becomes a grainy paste.
(From Nigella Lawson's Forever Summer)

It was really good! Let it sit in the fridge for a day and get nice and cold and allow the flavor of the herbs to come out. I discovered that the walnuts and feta I bought came in 6oz packages so I used 5 scallions instead and I have to admit I didn't bother with actually measuring out the lime juice and olive oil. I always eyeball stuff like that in these kinds of recipes.

Ok! Someone else's turn!

So what if he follows all his followers? Anderson Cooper is following me on twitter! HAHA. Caren's gonna be jealous!

My boss was fed up with the antics of yesterday's committee and decided yesterday to take today off. And to lessen her guilt, she gave me Friday off. Now I'm thinking about taking my mom to the Red Wings parade. That would probably make her whole year.

Happy Things:

(To counterbalance my wrath of earlier today.)

- Our Moo order just arrived. Mooooooooooooooo.
- I am getting a new lens this week. Maybe even tonight.
- We have two wedding photography inquiries for the same date.
- I am home from work.

Hello Irony. Readers with sensitive stomachs are warned to stop reading now.

Just a few short hours ago, I posted about how I'd rather smell poopy smells than artificial-air-freshner-perfumed poopy smells.

Do you see where this is going?

The Universe, it would seem, is not without a sense of humor.

I came home 45 minutes ago and opened the door to an overwhelming, double-you-over, stench of shit. I mean just that. Abby got sick today....and her entire crate and the surrounding floor and walls are covered in what is literally, liquid shit. LIQUID. Up on the walls. An inch in both of her food bowls. Completely saturating the bedding in her crate.

It is overpowering, as in, I threw up. Twice. Trying to clean it up. I am on my third pair of latex gloves and so not even close to being done cleaning it up, but I had to take a break because I was dry heaving so much.

Meanwhile, the dog, who is also covered in poo, though not as bad as you might expect, is barking psychotically, non-stop because I put her outside and have no intention of letting her in until she's hosed off. But that's gotta wait while I de-stink the house. I can just see her running inside, soaking wet, and laying right back down in this mess.

The ironic part? I had to use copious amounts of Oust just so I could stomach sliding out the tray on the bottom of her crate to dump in the backyard. (I had to set the tray down twice in transit to keep from upsetting it and having the contents spray into my face. I nearly started crying when I realized the door jam was an inch too narrow and I was going to have to angle it.)

I am seriously going to have nightmares.

THANK GOD, the dog finally stopped barking. I hope she didn't turn inside out.

P.S. Do not feed your dog these:

Unless you want horrible things to come out of their butts. I just got off the phone with my parents. After my dad stopped laughing at me, my mom got on the phone and asked what I had given Abby. Those treats were the only thing different. She said one of her goldens got really sick off them too. Both of us have given them those dog biscuits before, months ago, without incident. Maybe they changed their formula. I think I might email them.

This shit (ha! a pun!) always happens when Andy isn't home to help.

We saw Indiana Jones last night!

There were SIX people at the theatre on opening night. I mean come on people, I know it was a Thursday, but this is INDIANA JONES for god's sake. Represent!
